Video of fatal police shooting in Tulsa raises questions about use of deadly force by the police against minorities in US.
This month in Tulsa, Oklahoma, another man was shot and killed by police. Eric Harris, the victim, was attempting to illegally sell a weapon to an undercover police officer.
The incident was captured by officer’s bodycam and it shows Harris trying to flee from police on foot. He was taken to the ground by 73-year-old Reserve Deputy Robert Bates.
The most disturbing part of the video is when gunshot is released from service weapon of Robert Bates and Harris can be heard saying: “He shot me! He shot me, man. Oh, my god. I’m losing my breath”.
Instead of providing first aid, officer can be heard saying “F*ck your breath. Shut the f*ck up” !
Harris was pronounced dead after an hour.
Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office released a statement saying that Harris was trying to sell 9mm semiautomatic pistol and ammunition to an undercover police officer and that he struggled when a deputy tried to restrain him.
Also, it was noted that Bateson believed he was using Taser not a gun, and that killing Eric Harris was an accident.
Isn’t it hard to claim that the shooting was accidental when the first aid wasn’t provided to a dying victim?
