If it weren’t for the CBS reporters who filmed the whole incident while reporting on a 805 Freeway crash, it would be hard to believe that a firefighter who was helping the victims got arrested for not moving his truck.

The on-duty Chula Vista firefighter Jacob Gregoire was helping two people injured in a car crash that happened north on I-805 between Telegraph Canyon Road and East Orange Avenue.

A California Highway Patrol officer asked the firefighters to move the three fire trucks blocking the fast lane, but only two of them complied. The 36-year-old firefighter veteran Gregoire refused to move his truck and continued to provide aid to the victims.

“It’s unbelievable you guys have to treat us like this. We are trying to help you guys”, said Gregoire.

The officer’s response was: “We asked you to clear the road, you said ‘No.’ You are being arrested for not moving.”

Gregoire was handcuffed and retained in the back of a CHP vehicle for half an hour before being released.

Chula Vista Fire Chief Dave Hanneman was shocked by the way his men were treated and he praised them for protecting the accident scene with their trucks, like they have been trained to.
Representatives from the CHP and Chula Vista Fire Department met and released a joint statement in which they declared this an isolated incident and expressed the willingness to improve communication and work together toward a common goal.

Cop is feeling like a real stud cuffing that firefighter. He looks like the power hungry complete fool that he is. How can he stand himself?!

  2. endit says:

How the he’ll does that cop think it’s ok to arrest a first responder doing his job? That cop should’ve been trying to help the people in the crash as well.stupid pig

    • Q'd says:

He was blocking traffic and refused to move the truck. However, the cop could have gone to the supervisor and had him move it –no arrest needed.

Maybe he felt useless and got jealous so tried to take power. Good the firefighter wasn’t scared of Cop power, maybe he doesn’t have any kids yet.

Seems this officer was trying to win the Jackass of the year award. The fire fighter was doing what he was meant to do.

what do you suggest the solution to such brutality by police is?

  5. Zack says:

My brother is a fire fighter and he said that the level of authority at a crash site goes 1. Fire department, 2. Police. There was an incident where a state police officer arrested a fire fighter and because of it every police officer had to go through 24 hours of “retraining” in order to ensure everyone was aware that the fire department runs the show at a crash site.

The cop was doing what he was supposed to be doing; cracking down on anyone with an iron fist that would dare question his”authori-tae”

that doesnt give a right to the police to that to them

  8. Bran says:

However that arrest will remain on this firefighters record unless it is removed by a court order.. Isn’t that the law in California? Which will make it difficult for him to vote or seek employment elsewhere. This cop should be fired simple as that.

Police are now the largest street gang in this country. They harm just as many if not more people then they help these days. Who can you trust if you can’t trust the people who are suppose to protect you? It’s sad to say but soon people are going to start killing the police just like they are killing others.

Blame management! Why does management skate? Management sets the tone, the expectations and the evaluations.

some times a exam for common sense is requred nore than a test of inteligence .that police man followed orders to the letter .but then so did the guards at Aushveits

  13. Bill says:

Many firefighters think they are above the law. They constantly park in a dangerous manner creating more dangers for other motorists. Just because they have flashing yellow lights doesn’t mean they can park anywhere. Red and blue beats yellow too!

  14. Q'd says:

Why not ask one of the other firemen to move it? sheesh…maybe the guy couldn’t move it and one of the others could.

The scary thing is that while these stories are pouring in every day, the superiors of these inept cops are just as if not more dangerous than the dumb ass cops committing these acts of complete ignorance. Very rarely does any of these cops get any kind of punishment for anything they do. Cops have absolutely zero common sense and even less good judgement. I mean really, what is going on in this idiot cops mind that he is able to convince himself that arresting a fireman at the scene of an accident who is treating people, that what he is doing is good judgement???
