Nashville police officer Richard Wilson was charged for attempting to assist cocaine dealers in exchange for money.

He accepted money from undercover federal agents, and he was also transporting cocaine while armed and while having his badge on.

He thought that the badge would protect him if he got stopped and found with all the cocaine in his car. His plan was obviously to badge his way out of it. Wilson thought the undercover cops where real drug dealers, which makes the charges even worse.

The prosecutors even had a secret video tape that showed the delivery of 25 kilograms cocaine. The assistant attorney says that “This was a huge amount of purported cocaine that (Wilson was willing to put on the street (…) He totally abandoned the oath of office he took to protect the citizens of Nashville.”

Still Wilson pleaded not guilty to the charges. He even argues that the government was able to manipulate the seriousness of the offenses by choosing the quantities of purported cocaine involved.

He was at last denied bail. His history of suspension is 11 days in six years, once for sexually assaulting a woman.
